Shopify Scripts have stopped running

Shopify Scripts is the Ruby-based way Plus merchants customized discounts, shipping and payment methods at checkout. Editing and publishing new Scripts ended on 2026-04-15. Scripts stopped running on 2026-06-30. Both dates have passed.

The deadline was previously 2025-08-28 and was reported as extended to 2026-06-30. I could not find an official page that states the extension itself, but the 2026 dates above are on Shopify's own pages.

What breaks

Customizations built as Scripts no longer run. That includes Script-based product discounts, shipping customizations and payment method customizations. Third-party sources report that checkout falls back to default behavior, so expect full prices, unfiltered shipping rates or unfiltered payment methods where a Script used to apply.

Scripts were a Plus feature, so this affects Plus merchants and the agencies that maintain their checkouts.

How to check

Shopify's Script Editor app showed a "Replace Shopify Scripts" banner and a customizations report. The report listed Scripts by type (payment gateways, shipping, product discounts), an auto-detected count, and a CSV export. Report access may be limited now that Scripts have stopped, so I have not confirmed it is still available.

Also compare your checkout against what it did before 2026-06-30. Test discount codes, shipping rates and payment options for the customer groups your Scripts targeted.

How to fix

Rebuild each Script as a Shopify Function:

1. Look for an existing Shopify Functions app that does the same job.
2. If none does, build a custom Function app. Custom Function apps must be created in the Dev Dashboard, because admin-created custom apps do not support App Bridge.
3. Test with a tagged set of customers first.
4. Deactivate the old Script once the Function is live.

Shopify's Functions overview says only Plus stores can use custom apps that contain Function APIs.
